The camshaft is connected to the engine's crankshaft by the timing belt. It makes engine's valves to open and close. When a timing belt breaks, the camshaft stops spinning and valves will contact the piston crowns, causing extensive internal damage. So timingbelt must be checked and adjusted regularly.
